I seen Dolby Anol @ The Art school and supporting MSTRKFT and HOLY SHIT they blew my fucking brains out with lasers and lovelyness. They are John Baillie Jnr and Graham Peel and they are super geniuses. I asked them these questions.

How did you guys first get into music?

We were in the same scene of laptop artists at the time and bonded over a love for sample house and electro.  We sort of taught ourselves how to do it I guess by trial and error.  We still think we could imporve a great deal!

You have a pretty unique sound, what do you think influences this?

Im not really sure. I guess it comes from hearing someone else do something REALLY amazing and then trying to imitate it but failing.  So you could say Doby anols sound is the sound of failure.

What is your favorite noise?

Single oscillator saw tooth wave, that or a nice vowel filter going AIEEEE

Do you have any noises that you don’t like?

That fucking fidgit bassline noise, whep whep whep whep whep

What is some music we might not expect Dolby Anol to listen to?

Outside dance me and john had pretty opposite taste.  Im into things like Anne Margaret or the shangri la’s and john is into things like the boredoms and smashing pumpkins.

What is your favorite facial expression when you are enjoying music? Can you describe it?

Biting your bottom lip cause the piece of music is just so good it kind of makes you feel a bit sexy.  Its a very rare occurance, “Se telefonando” by Mina Mazzini managed to do it for me.

Have any Kurt Russell movies influenced your life, and if so which ones and why?

Big trouble in little china yeah?  Thats the stand out one, total childhood classic.  Dunno that john Carpanter did some nifty theme tunes.  That or overboard (is he in that too?)  it made me pine for a boat.

What is your favorite thing to do, outside of music?

Smoke, and then plan quitting smoking while smoking

Do you prefer cats or dogs?

Tough one, I had a cat and a dog.  I’ll go for Dogs, since I moved to Berlin you see loads of them about, that only makes me want one more

Do you prefer Tea or coffee?

Coffee with regular hob nobs to dunk in, not the chocolate ones (too messy)

What does Dolby Anol have planned in the next 12 months?

We are releasing a new E.P. on tigerbass called “Sandy bitches” in like a month or so.  We also just finished another one but we dont know when we will release it, it takes us a while to do things

Do you like seagulls?

No.  They are the stormtroopers of the bird community
